Empowering Underprivileged Women Through Free Fashion Education

NG Unique Education & Women Empowerment Social Welfare Society is a registered NGO in Belagavi, Karnataka, founded by Smt Veena Girish Jigajinni with a clear mission: no woman should be denied the opportunity to learn a skill, earn an income, and build an independent life simply because she cannot afford the training.

The NGO works as the social impact arm of the Anjan Institute ecosystem, providing completely free stitching and tailoring training to women from economically weaker sections, subsidised diploma programs for deserving candidates, and rural skill development camps that take training directly to villages across Belagavi district.

Through donor funding, CSR partnerships, and institutional support, we have helped hundreds of underprivileged women gain practical skills, find employment, start their own businesses, and transform not just their own lives but the futures of their families.

About NG Unique Education & Women Empowerment Social Welfare Society

NG Unique Education & Women Empowerment Social Welfare Society was established by Smt Veena Girish Jigajinni as the social responsibility extension of her work in fashion education. While running Anjan Institute of Fashion Design, she encountered a recurring and heartbreaking reality: many of the most talented and motivated women who approached the institute for training were unable to enrol because they could not afford even the most modest fees. These were women from below-poverty-line families, rural households, widows trying to rebuild their lives, and single mothers desperate to find a way to support their children.

The NGO was founded with the explicit purpose of serving these women — the ones the formal education system and the private training market had left behind. Registered as a social welfare society, it operates from the same premises as Anjan Institute, leveraging the institute's infrastructure, equipment, and faculty to deliver high-quality training at zero cost to eligible participants. This shared-resource model keeps overhead costs minimal and ensures that maximum funds go directly toward training more women.

The founding philosophy is straightforward: if a woman is willing to learn, her financial situation should never be the barrier. The NGO has since trained hundreds of women through its free and subsidised programs. Many of these women now earn steady incomes through tailoring, some have opened their own small stitching businesses, and others have gone on to pursue the full diploma program and become qualified fashion designers. The ripple effect is significant — when a woman earns, she educates her children, improves her family's nutrition and healthcare, and becomes a role model for other women in her community.

The NGO's work extends beyond the classroom. Through rural skill development camps, the organisation takes training directly into villages and talukas where women have no access to skill centres. Through its entrepreneurship support program, it mentors trained women as they take their first steps into self-employment. And through partnerships with corporates and CSR initiatives, it continuously expands its capacity to train more women every year.

Our Programs: Training That Transforms Lives

Each program is designed to meet women where they are — whether they need introductory skills, advanced training, or business mentorship.

1. Free Stitching & Tailoring Training

Duration
1 to 3 months
Eligibility
Women from economically weaker sections, BPL families, rural areas, widows, and single mothers
Skills Covered
Basic garment construction, machine operation, measurements, cutting, blouse stitching, salwar kameez making, and basic alterations

This is the flagship program of the NGO — a completely free training course that teaches fundamental stitching and tailoring skills to underprivileged women. Participants learn on professional sewing machines at the institute, using materials provided entirely free of cost. The program runs in structured batches, typically lasting one to three months depending on the skill level and learning pace of participants. By the end, each woman has the practical ability to take on basic tailoring orders, seek employment at garment shops, or start a small home-based stitching service. No fees, no hidden costs — just skills that lead to income.

2. Subsidised Diploma Program

Duration
12 months
Eligibility
Deserving candidates with financial need who want to pursue advanced fashion education
Skills Covered
Complete diploma curriculum including pattern making, garment construction, fashion illustration, aari embroidery, fabric knowledge, and business skills

For women who have completed the free training and wish to go further, or for those who want comprehensive fashion education but cannot afford the full fee, the NGO offers a subsidised diploma program. Under this scheme, a portion of the diploma fee is covered by the NGO through donor funds and CSR contributions, and the student pays a significantly reduced amount. This makes the full 12-month Advanced Diploma in Fashion Designing accessible to women who would otherwise never be able to afford it. Subsidised diploma students receive the same training, same certificate, and same earn-while-you-learn opportunity as regular students.

3. Rural Skill Development Camps

Duration
3 to 7 days per camp
Eligibility
Women in rural talukas and villages of Belagavi district
Skills Covered
Introduction to stitching, basic sewing machine operation, simple garment making, and awareness about further training opportunities

Recognising that many women in rural areas cannot travel to Belagavi city for training, the NGO conducts short-term skill development camps directly in villages and talukas across the district. These camps, typically lasting three to seven days, introduce rural women to basic stitching skills, familiarise them with sewing machines, and teach simple garment construction. More importantly, these camps serve as awareness programs, informing women about the full training opportunities available at the institute. Many participants of rural camps later enrol in the free training program or the subsidised diploma, having gained the confidence and exposure through the camp experience.

4. Women Entrepreneurship Support

Duration
Ongoing mentorship
Eligibility
Women who have completed training and want to start their own businesses
Skills Covered
Business planning guidance, pricing strategy, customer acquisition, marketing basics, and ongoing mentorship

Training alone is not enough if a woman does not know how to convert her skills into income. The NGO provides entrepreneurship support and mentorship to women who have completed their training and want to start their own tailoring businesses, boutiques, or home-based fashion services. This includes guidance on how to price their work fairly, how to find and retain customers, how to manage simple finances, and how to market their services locally. Smt Veena Jigajinni and the institute faculty personally mentor these aspiring entrepreneurs, helping them navigate the practical challenges of starting and running a small business.

CSR Partnership Opportunities

Partner with NG Unique Education & Women Empowerment Society to create lasting social impact through women's skill development. Every contribution directly translates into trained, empowered, and independent women.

Fund a Training Batch

Sponsor the complete training of a batch of 10 to 15 underprivileged women. This covers instructor time, materials, machine usage, and certification. Each batch transforms lives and creates self-sufficient women.

Donate Sewing Machines & Equipment

Contribute industrial sewing machines, aari embroidery frames, cutting tables, or other fashion production equipment. More machines mean more women can be trained simultaneously, increasing our throughput and impact.

Sponsor Training Materials

Fund the purchase of fabric, thread, needles, patterns, and other consumable materials used during training. These materials are essential for practical learning and need regular replenishment as new batches begin.

Support Rural Camps

Fund outreach camps in rural talukas where trainers travel to villages, set up temporary training centres, and introduce women to basic stitching skills. These camps are often the first step that brings rural women into the skill development pipeline.
